With a household of six and only her income as a self-employed cosmetologist, Whitney knows the stress of supporting a family. Whitney’s husband has been on disability for eight years following a stroke. And with prices for everything being so high and impacting everyone, Whitney has had a difficult time making ends meet.
“I’ve noticed a big drop in people not getting their hair done, which is understandable. But being able to get groceries and pay my bills — it’s very, very hard. I still struggle,” she tells us.
“Times are tough. This is a huge help. It gives me an opportunity to make sure I have food in the house for my kids,” she says of the local food pantry she visits, supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank. The pantry enables her to get the food she needs to keep her four children nourished. Essentials like meat, cereal, soups, and snacks are some of the most helpful foods she often finds at the pantry.
She also wants to make sure other neighbors who might need help know that they can find support at food pantries: “Don’t be embarrassed. It’s here for us to use when we need it.”
Thank you for helping neighbors like Whitney find the support they need when facing life’s challenges. Your compassion and generosity are greatly appreciated.
