Yessinia is a hardworking, single mother of eight, with children ranging from just nine months old to twenty years. She has spent years working tirelessly in North Dakota’s agricultural industry, harvesting crops to provide for her family. It’s strenuous work, but she does it all with resilience and an unwavering determination to create a better life for her children.
She once dreamed of becoming a counselor, wanting to help others navigate the hardships of life. Though life took her in a different direction, she remains focused on building a stable future for her family. Now, she’s set her sights on a new goal – earning her Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Becoming a truck driver would mean better pay, greater job stability, and the ability to better support her family. It would give her the chance to not only pay the bills more easily but also provide opportunities for her children that she never had.
Through it all her gratitude is deep, not just for the tangible support, but for the hope and dignity that food assistance programs provide. Knowing that help is available gives her reassurance as she takes the next step to provide more for her children and turn her dreams into reality.
“Thank you. It is such a blessing, such a blessing for families like mine that are large,” Yessinia says, her voice filled with emotion. “To have help with food, and your help with things for the house that we need.”
Yessinia’s story reflects resilience and determination. It highlights the impact of community support and the difference it can make for families working toward a more secure future. With her hard work and the resources available through the Great Plains Food Bank, she is moving toward greater stability and opportunity for her family.
