Volunteers from House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Bismarck have become a familiar and beloved presence at the Great Plains Food Bank. In 2022, the church set out to create more volunteer opportunities for their small groups, which led them to participate in the United Way Day of Caring, packing food at the Great Plains Food Bank. They were instantly hooked.
Serving neighbors in need is rooted in their faith and sense of mission. Over the past nine months, volunteers from House of Prayer have committed nearly 1,000 hours at the Great Plains Food Bank’s regional service center, located in Bismarck, North Dakota. They even set a record during our annual Packathon event by packing 1,650 pounds of food
in just 90 minutes!
“Just packing food as a group is fun,” one volunteer shares. “The team at the food bank makes it a great experience, and it’s a good way to meet other people. Delivering the senior meal boxes was really special.”
Volunteering has strengthened the bond between House of Prayer and the community, and it has made a big impact on the church as well. “The members who spend time packing food together build stronger relationships in the church. Serving together means a lot and keeps us going back. It feels good to give back,” adds the volunteer.
The Great Plains Food Bank is deeply grateful for House of Prayer’s partnership, their heart for service, and the joy they bring to every shift. They are truly a shining example of what it means to live your mission and serve with purpose. Please visit GreatPlainsFoodBank.org to learn about the many volunteer opportunities available.
