Volunteers Make Hunger Relief Possible
Volunteers play a vital role in helping us meet the needs of our communities. Their generosity of time and talent supports every part of our work from preparing food to strengthening programs that serve our neighbors. By working side-by-side with our staff, volunteers help move us closer to a future without hunger.
Each day, volunteers support hunger relief in many ways, including sorting and packing food, supporting distributions at partner sites, assisting with data entry and behind-the-scenes work, and sharing specialized skills that help strengthen and expand our impact across the region.
Thank you for being part of the work to end hunger together.

How does volunteering work for groups versus individuals?
Group volunteer opportunities require additional preparation and screening, so groups are not able to self-schedule at this time. When submitting a group application, you’ll designate a main contact, and our team will work directly with them to schedule the opportunity. All individuals must register separately in advance to save time at check-in.
How old do you have to be to volunteer at Great Plains Food Bank?
Volunteer opportunities are available for a variety of age groups—including kids! Age requirements vary by activity and location to ensure a safe, positive experience for everyone.
Can I track my volunteer hours?
Yes! Our Volunteer Information Center allows volunteers to track their service hours, which is especially helpful for students or individuals completing volunteer or service-learning requirements.
What is the Volunteer Agreement?
The Volunteer Agreement is a helpful reference that outlines expectations, safety guidelines, and important policies to support a positive volunteer experience. You’ll agree to this document during registration, so no additional steps are required. We encourage you to revisit it anytime as a resource or refresher as you continue volunteering with us.
Can I complete court-ordered or required community service hours at Great Plains Food Bank?
At this time, we’re not able to accept volunteers who are completing court-ordered or required community service hours, and we are unable to sign off on community service projects. We truly appreciate your interest in volunteering and encourage you to reach out to other organizations in your community that may be able to support those needs.
