Over 19,700 pounds of food were packed over 4 days thanks to local businesses
Two hundred and ten employee volunteers rolled up their sleeves as they packed to end hunger during this year’s Packathon, a high-energy, team-based event hosted by the Great Plains Food Bank. Held over 4 days in early June, Packathon brought together 27 corporate teams in Fargo and Bismarck to pack as much food as possible in fast-paced, 90-minute shifts with the aim to provide groceries for neighbors facing food insecurity
Thanks to the hard work and generosity of these partners, a total of 19,744 pounds of food were packed, which is enough to provide 16,453 meals for individuals and families in need across North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota.
“Packathon continues to be one of the most inspiring events we host each year,” said Rebecca Knutson, Corporate Engagement Manager at the Great Plains Food Bank. “It’s a powerful reminder of how collective action can bring tangible relief to those struggling with hunger. We’re so grateful to our partners and volunteers who made this year’s Packathon a tremendous success.”
This event was made possible by the support of the event’s premier partners Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Caring Foundation and Merrill Lynch Wealth Management as well as the contributing partners Bell Insurance, Cargill, Bartlett & West, First Community Credit Union, and Basin Electric Power Cooperative.
“We’ve been involved with Great Plains Food Bank for several decades now and have been involved with Packathon since it started, being a premiere partner to sponsor this event,” said Matt Engen of Merrill Lynch. “Our office and team like to give back to the community — it’s something that everyone can get behind. We enjoy the staff here and will continue to support this event into the future.”
Packathon is more than just a volunteer activity, it’s an energizing, hands-on way for companies and coworkers to make a meaningful impact together. Every box packed during the event provides food for local children, seniors and families ultimately helping fulfill the Great Plains Food Bank’s mission to end hunger together.
“We are proud to be a premier partner of the Great Plains Food Bank, standing alongside them in the fight to end hunger across our state,” said Amber Blomberg, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to supporting people who face food insecurity and bringing them relief, hope, and nourishment. As a leader in improving the well-being of our communities, we are grateful for the vital role the Great Plains Food Bank plays in building stronger, healthier communities and making a direct impact in the lives of our neighbors living with hunger.”
