At Horizon West, a Moorhead Public Schools middle school, the Spud Mart School Pantry ensures students facing hunger have access to food for after-school snacks, evening meals, and breakfast.
Supported by the Great Plains Food Bank and donations from school staff, churches, and other community members, the school pantry provides easy-to-prepare meals and snacks to students who need them every Friday and as needed throughout the week — with even larger food bags sent home before extended school breaks.
The dedicated staff and student volunteers keep the school pantry organized and discreetly deliver food to lockers. This small act of kindness creates a big impact, allowing students to focus and learn without the stress of hunger. The program also builds life skills and pride for the student volunteers. One student summed it up, saying he was “blessing others” by helping to share food.
Strong community support keeps school pantries running — and you can help! Your gift to the Great Plains Food Bank helps impact children, families, seniors, and students across North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota.
