Area high school, middle school, and elementary students came together in a big way this year for the 18th annual Fill the Dome event, collecting 119,552 pounds of food and around $30,000 in monetary donations. This initiative brought in enough to provide more than 99,600 meals for those in need.
Since 2007, Fill the Dome has united more than 50 area schools and has collected over 2.6 million pounds of food and raised over $870,000, supporting children, seniors, and families experiencing hunger in Fargo-Moorhead area and surrounding communities.
The 2024 event, themed “Round Up Hunger – Yeehaw for a Cause,” featured two days of activities led by the Metro Area Student Ambassadors (MASA) at the Fargodome. Part of the activities included handing out awards to ‘The Most Creative School’, which was given to Oak Grove, and ‘The School with the Most Food Donations’, which was given to Moorhead High. These recognitions celebrated the outstanding efforts of students during the event.
“This event is always a highlight for me, as I get to see the energy and excitement of these students who are determined to help others. Their dedication is a reminder of how much can be accomplished when we come together for a common cause,” shared Melissa Sobolik, CEO of the Great Plains Food Bank.
Fill the Dome is held in partnership with Dakota Medical Foundation, the Fargodome, Great Plains Food Bank and Hornbacher’s along with silver sponsors Enclave and RDO Equipment and bronze sponsors Fargo Line-X, Inc. and Planet Fitness.
