For Sam, a father of nine, moving to North Dakota was about more than just a change of scenery; it was about giving his family the support and stability they needed. After relocating from Utah to be closer to relatives, Sam and his wife found a community where family could help care for their children while they worked, and where the cost of living allowed them to stretch every dollar further.
“I appreciate this—getting any help we can,” Sam said during his first visiting the Williston mobile food pantry. “Every bit of food helps.” With nine children, from Sam Jr. to Isabella and Barry, even small gestures of support make a big difference for the family.
Sam hopes to return to work on the oil rigs, a field he’s experienced in before, while his wife continues to care for the family at home. Looking ahead, he dreams of settling down in North Dakota until his children finish school, enjoying the peace of affordable housing and a community that makes day-to-day life manageable for a large family.
Through his first mobile pantry visit, Sam found more than groceries—he found a sense of support and hope for the future. “Every bit helps,” he says, and in a community that cares, it truly does.
