Candace has worked in retail for years and loves her job at the local grocery store. She always enjoys greeting customers and welcoming people as they come in to shop.
But a few years ago, Candace lost the toes on her left foot to frostbite. The recovery process made work impossible for about a year and a half.
“It was awful,” she says. “It was an adjustment.”
Today, Candace is working full time again, committed to doing her job well despite the challenges her left foot presents. She says her boss is supportive and understanding, and even lets her wear slippers to work because of the pain in her feet.
The income she earns now is helping her to make ends meet. But she says she is still catching up from the bills that accumulated while she was out of work.
“I’m fortunate right now,” she says. “I wasn’t before.”
Candace is thankful she can access nutritious food from the Hunger Free Food Pantry in New Rockford, North Dakota, supplied by the Great Plains Food Bank. The support she receives helps her make it through the month when her budget is tight.
Your generosity and compassion give our neighbors a helping hand up to make ends meet, especially during the holiday season. Thank you!
